In the story of Pentecost, Jesus breathes on the disciples, recalling that original action of God. Jesus breathes new life into the disciples and, through them, into the whole Church. It is that breath, that spirit that continues to enliven the Church in its mission to preach redemption and forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. Jesus’
salutation, “Peace be with you,” bears fruit when we realize how reliant we are on God’s breath and how that creative spirit urges us to participate in the work of creation so that all things will reflect the peace and love of God.
This week we celebrated the Confirmation of over a hundred fifty of our youth and young adults. In this Sacrament, we pray that the Breath of God animate our young people with the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, counsel, courage, piety and awe and may those same gifts enliven all of us in our journey of faith.
